Solace is an interactive display for factory workers that allows them to express themselves in the workplace through immersive, expressive experiences. It is the culmination of an 8-month research project with Boeing to explore ways to improve communication during the assembly process of the 787 Dreamliner. As a technical lead on this project, I helped manage the software and hardware development processes needed to prototype Solace and test it with factory workers in Everett, Washington.

The following concept video was created to illustrate the experience of using Solace, and how it can fit into the workday of workers at Boeing.

In order to test this concept with factory workers, we created an interactive prototype using a tent, a projector, a few computers, and lots of javascript. The experience of using Solace was simulated for the eases of prototyping, with members of our team controlling the application based on the actions the participant.
